FFRF Action Fund endorses U.S. Rep. Andrea Salinas for reelection

FFRF Action Fund is pleased to endorse U.S. Rep. Andrea Salinas in her reelection bid to Oregon’s 6th Congressional District.

Salinas does not have a primary opponent and currently faces an independent candidate on the general election ballot. District 6, which covers most of urban Salem and the Southwest suburbs of Portland, has a strong independent voter base, though the Cook Political Report rates the district as “Solid Democrat.”

Salinas is a member of the Congressional Freethought Caucus, defending the rights of “Nones” and the preservation of science, reason and state/church separation in the United States. In April 2025, Salinas joined a letter led by Reps. Jared Huffman, D-Calif., and Jamie Raskin, D-Md., addressed to then-Attorney General Pam Bondi and other agency heads expressing concerns about the Trump Administration’s Task Force to Eradicate Anti-Christian Bias. Salinas also joined Rep. Yassamin Ansari, D-Ariz., Huffman and Raskin in a resolution that “honors the fundamental American principle of the separation of church and state.”

Salinas identifies as nonreligious. She served as a staffer for former U.S. Rep. Pete Stark, D-Calif., who is known as the first openly atheist in Congress, from 1997 to 2004.

Notably, Salinas also has a perfect 100/100 score on FFRF Action’s Dynamic Scorecard and is a strong proponent of all of FFRF Action Fund’s issue areas. Before joining Congress, Salinas worked for NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon and Planned Parenthood Advocates of Oregon, where she helped pass the nation’s most progressive reproductive health care policy for Oregonians. She is a strong congressional ally in the fight for abortion rights, alongside all other FFRF Action Fund’s state/church-aligned legislative priorities.
