The FFRF Action Fund is urging U.S. senators to vote against the confirmation of Rebecca Taibleson to the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
At Taibleson’s recent hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee, she refused to say whether Obergefell v. Hodges, the landmark Supreme Court decision that established same-sex marriage as a constitutional right, was rightly decided. Taibleson notably stated that other landmark civil rights decisions, such as Brown v. Board of Education, which held that segregated schools violate the Constitution, were correctly decided.
The FFRF Action Fund joins Sen. Tammy Baldwin, D-Wis., in opposing Taibleson’s confirmation on the Senate floor.
“Wisconsinites expect judges who have relevant experience, respect everyone’s rights and freedoms, and will deliver justice fairly and impartially. I have reviewed Ms. Taibleson’s application, her previous work and statements, and her confirmation hearing, and sadly, she does not meet those standards and what Wisconsinites deserve,” Baldwin wrote in a statement.
“Obergefell is correctly settled law,” agrees FFRF Action Fund President Annie Laurie Gaylor. “The refusal of Rebecca Taibleson to recognize this is an alarming signal that she is unfit to take the federal bench.”
