FFRF Action Fund endorses Kansas State Rep. Heather Meyer for reelection

FFRF Action Fund endorses Kansas State Rep. Heather Meyer in her reelection bid for House District 29.

Meyer was appointed in August 2021 and was then elected by ballot in November 2022. She is running unopposed in November’s election.

Meyer has consistently championed the separation of state and church since taking office and has been a stellar ally in advancing state/church legislation. Meyer introduced the Students’ Secular Bill of Rights last session (created by FFRF Action Fund in tandem with other groups) and will remain committed to keeping proselytization out of public schools when reelected. She vows to continue opposing any policy that grants special treatment to private religious schools and organizations and to work with secular partners to ensure the separation of state and church is upheld at all levels of government. She will not support any legislation that blurs the line between religion and government. Meyer is the ranking minority member of the House Federal & State Affairs Committee.

State/church-aligned issues such as reproductive justice, LGBTQ+ rights, public education and climate change are all central to Meyer’s legislative career. She identifies as a humanist and was also the first openly bisexual member of the Kansas Legislature.

The FFRF Action Fund joins the LGBTQ+ Victory Fund, Planned Parenthood Great Plains Votes, Moms Demand Action, Greater Kansas City Women’s Political Caucus, LPAC and many others in endorsing Meyer.
