The FFRF Action Fund proudly endorses Wisconsin state Rep. Ryan Clancy in his reelection bid. Clancy faces one opponent, Bridget Maniaci, a former Madison alder, in the Democratic primary scheduled for Tuesday, August 11.
In 2022, Clancy was first elected to Wisconsin’s state Assembly, representing District 19, a solidly blue district. The FFRF Action Fund endorsed Clancy in his last reelection bid in 2024. Clancy publicly identifies as an atheist, humanist lawmaker, and asserts that his constituents can be confident that his advocacy and legislative work are not based on religious texts or dogma, but rather on data and their needs.
For specific state/church issues, Clancy pointed to ending the invocation prayers that open every session of the Wisconsin Assembly and Senate, which are not included in state statutes. He also aims to end state aid to primarily religious organizations and to eliminate voucher schemes in Wisconsin that funnel public funds into religious institutions.
Clancy is a valuable ally to the FFRF Action Fund in the Wisconsin legislature and as an outspoken nonreligious lawmaker.
The FFRF Action Fund joins the Wisconsin Education Association Council, Citizen Action of Wisconsin, the Working Families Party, Wisconsin Conservation Voters and many others in endorsing Clancy.
