The FFRF Action Fund proudly endorses Washington state Rep. Strom Peterson in his reelection campaign. Peterson faces one Democratic opponent, Jason Moon, in the nonpartisan primary scheduled for Tuesday, August 4. Moon has received prominent Republican endorsements and raised significant funds.

Peterson is an openly atheist lawmaker. He was first elected to an open seat representing Washington’s 21st District in 2015 through a robust campaign. The FFRF Action Fund endorsed his last reelection bid in 2024. Peterson asserts that as a state legislator, he has created safe and clean communities, passed commonsense gun control legislation, protected the environment and fought for a strong economy. Peterson notes that Washington’s current Democratic caucus is the most diverse in state history, a welcome development.

Peterson describes some of his top priorities as protecting women’s right to choose and fighting for our democracy. Republicans have repeatedly introduced legislation to restrict or ban abortion access in Washington, a state with very protective abortion policies, and the Democratic majority in the state legislature has routinely blocked these anti-abortion attacks. Peterson is a stellar ally in the Washington legislature.

The FFRF Action Fund joins the Washington Education Association PAC, Planned Parenthood Alliance Advocates, Moms Demand Action, WA Stonewall Dems and many elected officials in endorsing Peterson.
