The FFRF Action Fund is pleased to endorse Vermont state Rep. Monique Priestley in her bid for the Vermont Senate, Orange District.
The district is a swing seat that flipped red in the last election, after being held by a Democrat since 2003. The seat is a top GOP holding that the Vermont Republican Party is heavily invested in, and Republican Gov. Phil Scott is pushing for the Republican candidate to take the race. Priestley garnered 70 percent of the vote in August’s Democratic Primary.
Scott appointed Priestley’s Republican opponent to the seat in January. Priestley told FFRF Action Fund that her opponent is aligned with MAGA tendencies in the Vermont Legislature.
Priestley is a strong ally of the FFRF Action Fund; she is an open atheist who will publicly defend the separation of state and church when it comes into question. She introduced FFRF Action Fund’s model legislation, the Secular Student Bill of Rights, last session and would like to do it again when reelected. She also spoke on a panel of secular legislators at FFRF’s 2025 annual convention.
Priestley is a national leader on privacy and data protection. She is a champion for good government and accountability and has routinely fought to protect children’s data and digital safety.
The FFRF Action Fund joins the LGBTQ+ Victory Fund, the Planned Parenthood Action Fund, the Vermont Progressive Party, VT Conservation Voters, Run for Something and others in endorsing Priestley. The FFRF Action Fund endorsed Priestley in her 2024 reelection bid to the Vermont House.
