Statement by FFRF Action Fund President Annie Laurie Gaylor:
“The FFRF Action Fund is delighted to see the growing leadership and influence of Reps. Jamie Raskin and Jared Huffman, who are the visionary co-founders of the Congressional Freethought Caucus.
“Raskin is the ideal choice to serve as the top Democrat on the House Natural Resources Committee, having worked as impeachment manager against Donald Trump after the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection and on the special House committee investigating the attack. Huffman, who is co-founder of the Stop Project 2025 Task Force in the House and a strong environmental advocate, is likewise the right choice to serve as the top Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee next term.
“They represent the best in Congress and their leadership is precisely what our nation needs at this time. We look forward to their continuing exemplary advocacy for humanism, justice and reason in Congress.”
Gaylor, who is also co-president of the Freedom From Religion Foundation, the parent organization of the FFRF Action Fund, adds she is proud that Raskin accepted the Freedom From Religion Foundation’s Clarence Darrow Award and that Rep. Huffman, as the only publicly nonreligious member of Congress, accepted FFRF’s Emperor Has No Clothes Award. Additionally, Raskin was sponsor of the original bill approving a memorial in the nation’s capital for Thomas Paine, which passed in 2022 designating the Thomas Paine Memorial Association, of which FFRF is a member, to oversee the project.
The FFRF Action Fund is ready to monitor the rules and regulations that come in during Trump’s second term to trample on true religious liberty. With your help, when the Trump administration comes for the separation of state and church and our secular democracy, we will be ready.
