FFRF AF endorses Crystal Lake, Illinois school board candidate

The FFRF Action Fund is pleased to endorse Alena Hansen in her April 1 bid for the Crystal Lake District 47 School Board in Illinois.

Hansen is committed to protecting the separation of state and church and maintaining religious neutrality in Crystal Lake’s schools. Currently, students in District 47 are given time off for Christian holidays but are required to attend mandatory events on Jewish and other religious holidays, sending the message that the schools prioritize Christianity over other religions. Hansen will work to rectify this on Crystal Lake’s school board.

Hansen has ample experience working in public schools. During her six years working in education, she launched multiple programs covering areas such as supporting disabled students and special education, providing grants for families in financial need, offering multilingual services, transportation and more. She currently serves as the vice president of the Young Democrats of McHenry County. Additionally, Hansen is a lifelong resident of Crystal Lake and an alumnus of District 47.

Four seats are open on District 47’s School Board, and a total of eight candidates are in the running.

The FFRF Action Fund joins the Victory Fund in endorsing Hansen.
