The FFRF Action Fund is pleased to endorse Karen Martin in her reelection bid for East Haven (Conn.) Town Council.

Martin is a Christian dedicated to maintaining a strong wall between the state and the church. She asserts that religious freedom and the separation of state and church are foundational principles of the United States. This separation is crucial in Martin’s decision-making process while serving on the East Haven Town Council.

Martin is running for her third term on the East Haven Town Council. The primary election is scheduled for Aug. 12. East Haven has a sizable Catholic demographic, and there has been some pushback against LGBTQ-plus issues, specifically with pride flags being displayed during Pride Month. When reelected, Martin will continue to serve as a council member who ensures that the LGBTQ-plus community is protected and that East Haven is a welcoming and inclusive town for all. Additionally, she is a strong supporter of reproductive freedom and bodily autonomy. She routinely submits testimony whenever possible to her state Legislature in support of bills promoting human rights and equality.

Martin has been a resident of East Haven for most of her life. Outside of holding public office, Martin works as a radiologic technologist, conducting MRI research at Yale University. She is the co-chair of the East Haven Democratic Town Committee and the co-founder of the East Haven Pride Group.

The FFRF Action Fund joins the Victory Fund in endorsing Martin.
