FFRF AF endorses Kenosha Unified School District school board candidate

The FFRF Action Fund is pleased to endorse Carl Bryan in his April 1 bid for the Kenosha Unified School District school board.

Bryan served on the Kenosha school board from 2009 to 2015 while he was a student at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside near Kenosha. He then left the school board after completing college. He has worked in education policy and budgeting for the past 10 years at the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. Bryan holds a bachelor’s degree in political science and a master’s degree in public administration and is currently pursuing a doctoral degree at Minnesota State University-Moorhead, studying educational development.

The race is nonpartisan, and on election day, April 1, the top two candidates will secure seats on the school board. Moms for Liberty, the Christian nationalist organization leading library censorship attempts, has targeted Kenosha and is working to get two of its candidates onto the school board, endangering Kenosha’s secular public schools.

Bryan is an open atheist committed to upholding a strong, secular public education system in which every student receives an inclusive and unbiased education regardless of their religious background. He believes in the importance of the separation of state and church. Bryan affirms that schools should remain neutral spaces focused solely on academic growth, critical thinking and equity, rather than religion. As a school board member, Bryan will work to ensure that policies and curricula are grounded in research and facts, free from religious influence, and promote respect for the diversity of beliefs within Kenosha.

The FFRF Action Fund joins the Victory Fund, Educated We Stand, the Kenosha County Democratic Party, Working Families Party, Kenosha ALF-CIO and Wisconsin Progress in endorsing Bryan.
