Donald Trump’s bigotry-filled Madison Square Garden rally over the weekend included FFRF Action Fund’s “Theocrat of the Week,” one of the most famous professional wrestlers worldwide.
On Sunday, Terry Gene Bollea, better known as Hulk Hogan, an American retired professional wrestler, returned to the famous New York City venue where he frequently performed during his wrestling career. The wrestler told a chanting crowd that by voting for Trump, God would be put in “our country” and “our schools.”
Hogan opened his remarks by calling Madison Square Garden “Donald Trump’s house” and the crowd “Trumpamaniacs.” Hogan told the frenzied audience: “I don’t see no stinking Nazis in here. I don’t see no stinking domestic terrorists in here.”
“You know when I hear my president and our president Donald Trump speak, he sounds for real brother, he sounds like he has a heart of gold that’s all for the USA,” Hogan remarked. He continued by seeming to make a degrading and disgusting oral sex joke about Vice President Kamala Harris: “But, when I hear Kamala speak, it sounds … like a script from Hollywood with a really, really [spitting sound] bad actress!” The crowd cheered.
“We all know Trump is the only man that can fix this country today,” remarked Hogan. He also blamed Harris for inflation and the border crisis, asking the crowd, “Whatcha going to do?” to fix these issues. The crowd screamed back, “Vote for Trump!”
“Whatcha going to do about putting God in our homes and our country and our schools?” The crowd’s response was the same: “Vote for Trump!”
“God bless Donald Trump! He’s our next president,” concluded Hogan.
This is not Hogan’s first foray into politics or associating with billionaires, and he certainly hasn’t ruled out a political career. With billionaire Peter Thiel, Hogan played an instrumental role in killing the media organization Gawker. After a 2012 sex tape scandal, Hogan filed a lawsuit against Gawker, bankrolled by Thiel, that effectively bankrupted the media company.
Hogan certainly has earned his “theocrat” title this week for urging voters to support Trump to ensure God is put in “our homes and our country and our schools.” The religious right backing Trump is openly flaunting what it desperately wants to do.
