Indiana — Center Grove School Board

FFRF AF endorses Nicole Kemp for Center Grove School Board

The FFRF Action Fund is pleased to endorse Nicole Kemp in her bid for the Center Grove School Board.

Two school board seats are up for election in November, with Kemp running against four opponents, two of whom are incumbents that lean far-right. The race is nonpartisan. One of the challengers, Robbie Williams, overtly wants to install Christianity in Center Grove schools. His campaign website proudly claims: “It is time to stand up for what our kids are being taught. It is time to get back to back to God — Family and Country.” Williams describes himself as “the true God — Family — Country Candidate that you are looking for!”

Kemp is not religious and believes there should be firm boundaries to keep religion out of public schools. She wants to keep schools inclusive and welcoming to all of those free from religion. She is against any instruction of the bible or religion during school hours, like the programs facilitated by LifeWise, which are making significant headway in Indiana. Instead, she would promote compromise solutions that keep religion out of public school days.

Kemp started working as a substitute teacher during the pandemic and is committed to protecting Center Grove students, including LGBTQ-plus and low-income students. The district has also dealt with Purple For Parents, an Indiana-based organization similar to Moms For Liberty, which focuses on infiltrating school boards to remove Critical Race Theory from schools, end Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) curricula and end Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) trainings. Unlike the school board candidates who would align themselves with Purple for Parents, Kemp will do everything she can to protect all Center Grove students and its LGBTQ-plus community.

The FFRF Action Fund joins Our Schools USA, Vote Common Good, Good Party, AFL-CIO and many others in endorsing Kemp.
