County Executive Angela Alsobrooks

FFRF AF endorses Angela Alsobrooks for U.S. Senate in Maryland

The FFRF Action Fund is pleased to endorse Angela Alsobrooks in her bid to represent Maryland in the U.S. Senate.

Alsobrooks has served as the Prince George’s county executive since 2018, the first woman to hold the position and the first Black woman to be elected as county executive in Maryland’s history. Prior to this, she served two terms as Prince George’s County state’s attorney, making history as the youngest and first woman to be elected to the position. Violent crime dropped during her tenure, and she established a pioneering unit to investigate police misconduct. Alsobrooks currently serves one of the wealthiest majority-Black communities in the country and would be the first Black woman senator to represent Maryland.

She is running to fill the seat of retiring Democratic Sen. Ben Cardin, a general election marked as a battleground race with the potential to reshape the Senate’s makeup. She is running against former Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan, a Republican who, based on his track record, would align with the Republican Senate leadership.

Alsobrooks has committed to co-sponsoring the Women’s Health Protection Act, one of the key pieces of legislation on FFRF Action Fund’s dynamic federal scorecard, during her first day in office

While county executive, Alsobrooks has focused on creating jobs, investing in education and serving all people in Prince George’s County. She has spearheaded the construction of 10 new schools and appointed the first-ever LGBTQ+ liaison to serve her county’s community.

After graduating from Duke University and the University of Maryland School of Law, Alsobrooks worked as a law clerk in the Howard County Circuit and the Baltimore City Circuit Court. She became the first full-time assistant state’s attorney to handle domestic violence cases for Prince George’s County.

Alsobrooks has also been endorsed by groups like MoveOn Political Action and the Planned Parenthood Action Fund, as well as various House leadership, including U.S. Rep. Jamie Raskin.
