Ohio — State Board of Education

FFRF AF endorses David Donofrio in bid for State Board of Education

David Donofrio is running for Ohio State Board of Education, District 6. Donofrio was elected to the South-Western City School District in 2017, representing Ohio’s 5th largest school district. Donofrio left office in December 2021 and seeks a return to helping Ohio’s teachers, students and high-quality education. Donforio would be the first out LGBTQ+ member of the Ohio State Board of Education and has been endorsed by the Victory Fund. Donofrio is concerned about the increasingly blurry line between church and state and the organizations targeting students. Donforio refers to LifeWise Academy taking students out of public school classes to instruct them in biblical content and Louisiana’s newly passed Ten Commandments-in-classrooms bill as reasons why he is concerned about the American education system.

Donofrio served as a Legislative Service Commission Fellow for the State of Ohio, where he worked with multiple legislators during the 2009–10 budget cycle. He then worked in various public and private sectors before being recruited to run for the Ohio State Board of Education in 2017. While in office, Donofrio helped open multiple middle schools and addressed issues related to a global pandemic and diversity-related issues following George Floyd’s death.

Donofrio, a firm believer in the U.S. protecting the minority and providing an equal experience for all, is committed to preserving the separation of church and state, as intended by the Founding Fathers. He will be up for election on November 5th. Please find out more about him by visiting his campaign website.
