Oklahoma State Superintendent Ryan Walters spoke last night at an event hosted by City Elders, a group that believes they are “anointed” by God to run the government.
The City Elders describe themselves as a national network with “the mission of governing the gates of every city in America to establish the Kingdom of God with strength, honor, and courage.”
As reported by Public Radio Tulsa, Walters told the group that the country is in a midst of a spiritual war and that Satan is working through “the enemy.”
Walters also invoked the biblical story of David and Goliath, telling the crowd that they have many “stones” to fight back.
“With God on our side, there is no enemy that can’t be defeated.”
Throughout the rest of his speech, Walters invoked familiar talking points about the need for patriotism and Bibles in schools.
Walters has repeatedly championed religious influence in public education, pushing for Christian teachings in schools while dismissing concerns about religious freedom and inclusion.
Protesters showed up at the event and called out this dangerous agenda, highlighting the real threat of a Christian extremist takeover of our public institutions.
