Lawmakers in Louisiana are taking a page out of the Christian nationalist playbook. The House has approved House Bill 8, which would require all public K-12 school classrooms in the state to display “In God We Trust” and now it’s headed to a Senate committee.

Under the guise that this is our “national motto,” HB 8 seeks to bring the notion of Christian superiority into public school classrooms. Lawmakers must understand that this motto does more to divide us as a nation than it does to unite us. It is the responsibility of every state to respect our secular Constitution, and Louisiana legislators need to adhere to it by refusing to support a bill that would impose religion on a captive audience of public school students. Don’t let legislators bring their deity into your public school classrooms!

This bill is going to be heard in the Senate Education Committee tomorrow, Thursday, May 18, so please don’t wait to take action! We have provided suggested talking points through the “Take Action” button, which can be customized to your liking. For best results, please be succinct and polite.
