Lawmakers in Louisiana are taking a page out of the Christian nationalist playbook. The House Committee on Education just approved House Bill 8, which would require all public K-12 school classrooms in the state to display “In God We Trust.”

Under the guise that this is our “national motto,” HB 8 seeks to bring the notion of Christian superiority into public school classrooms. Lawmakers must understand that this motto does more to divide us as a nation than it does to unite us. This is a clear attempt to create the false perception that Louisiana is governed and sponsored by Christianity! It is the responsibility of every state to respect our secular Constitution, and Louisiana legislators need to adhere to it by refusing to support a bill that would impose religion on public schools. Don’t let legislators push their beliefs on you and your children!

This bill could be heard on the House floor any day now, so please don’t wait to take action! We have provided suggested talking points through the “Take Action” button, which can be customized to your liking. For best results, please be succinct and polite.
