As a Florida freethinker, your voice needs to be heard to protect abortion rights.

A new constitutional amendment protecting abortion access before viability as well as the health of the patient has been proposed, but it needs support to make it on the 2024 general election ballot. FFRF Action Fund, the lobbying arm of the Freedom From Religion Foundation, is asking registered voters in Florida to sign a petition to make that happen.

The overwhelming majority of Americans support abortion. That’s why anti-abortion politicians are scrambling to ban abortion without their constituents’ input. (And atheists, agnostics and religiously unaffiliated “Nones” are the most supportive of abortion. Among FFRF members, 98.8 support abortion rights.)

As you are aware, the situation in Florida is dire, with a 15-week ban being heard before the state Supreme Court, and a 6-week ban ready to go into effect depending on that ruling. Almost the entire South has now enacted abortion bans, so ensuring no more bans in Florida is crucial.

The constitutional amendment petition needs more than 800,000 signatures, representing at least half of the congressional districts, before February. That’s a tall order, and secular Floridians must show up in strong support.

FFRF Action Fund is asking you to take the following actions:

  1. Sign the petition to add the constitutional amendment to the ballot if you haven’t already. You can learn more here. Please widely share this petition with your networks as well.
  2. Make sure you’re registered to vote.
  3. And of course, plan to vote YES and help get out the vote for this constitutional amendment.

The only organized opposition to abortion rights is religious in nature. Please help ensure that the separation of state and church and reproductive liberty are protected by supporting this amendment to your state constitution.
