A new Arizona bill glaringly violates the First Amendment!

House Bill 2110 recently passed its committee hearing and is headed to the House floor. This bill would force school boards to allow prayer at meetings, opening the door to costly lawsuits for school districts around the state. Arizona taxpayers shouldn’t have to foot the bill for school districts’ lawsuits — Fight back against this bill today!

HB 2110 would require school boards, including charter school governing bodies, community college boards and university governing bodies to allow prayer during meetings upon request from any member of that body. FFRF Action Fund’s sister organization has continuously fought battles against the inclusion of prayer on school boards, including the U.S. Ninth Circuit Court case Freedom From Religion Foundation, Inc. v. Chino Valley Unified School Board of Education. After a panel of judges struck down prayer, citing a lack of secular legislative purpose and its unconstitutional nature, the district was forced to pay more than $282,000 in attorneys’ fees and costs.
