Wyoming voices are needed in order to stop a Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA) being advanced right now.

House Bill 0207 seeks to allow unchecked discrimination for private citizens based on “deeply held personal beliefs.” If this bill is signed into law, the consequences will be far reaching and discrimination in the name of religion will fester in Wyoming. Please take action now, and stop this bill before it’s too late!

HB 0207 would allow for people to freely discriminate with near impunity from the government. Under the proposed law, the state would need to refrain from “burden[ing] a person’s right to the exercise of religion,” unless the state has a “compelled interest” to do so. This heightened standard almost certainly requires a finding that no government actions are valid reasons to curb discrimination so long as it is done in the name of religion. There are numerous examples of such discrimination under the protection of the federal RFRA, as well as other state RFRAs. Christian nationalists are fighting for bills like these to take hold in states across the nation in order to cement their privilege to openly discriminate without repercussion. Don’t this happen in Wyoming!

This bill has crossed over to the Senate, and could be scheduled for a hearing in a Senate committee any day. Contact your state Senators and let them know that you do not support a free pass to discriminate. You can use the provided talking points through the “Take Action” button, which you can customize to your liking. For best results, please be succinct and polite.
