Christian nationalist bills are already popping up in Indiana’s Legislature!
Two prefiled bills would put religion at the forefront of public school classrooms in Indiana. As the 2026 legislative season begins, we need your help to ensure lawmakers are aware of these bills that would erode the wall between state and church. Please act now, and urge your representatives to reject House Bills 1232 and 1086!
HB 1232 would require public schools to include the bible in K-12 curricula. Even worse, this bill requires the government to ignore state/church separation concerns when religious organizations ask for taxpayer funds for any reason. This is an obvious attempt to indoctrinate children using dogma-laced lessons and to privilege certain churches and Christian organizations over others requesting government funds. Christian nationalists know the best time to recruit new followers is when they’re young, and this bill gives them the perfect opportunity to do just that!
Additionally, HB 1086 would require school libraries and classrooms to display durable posters of the Ten Commandments. This goes directly against the Supreme Court’s long-standing precedent that stand-alone Ten Commandments monuments on public property violate the Establishment Clause when their primary purpose is religious. Placing these monuments inside public schools — where children are a captive audience and where their constitutional protections must be at their strongest — would mark a severe deviation from established precedent.
