Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee is fighting against secular public education with a newly unveiled voucher program. Announced as an expansion to an existing program, the move expands vouchers across the entire state. The best time to show opposition for this move is right now — so take action today!
Unfurled last week, Lee’s voucher program would expand the existing eligible funding from Davidson and Shelby counties to the entire state. Despite seeming like a grand slam for voucher supporters, the existing program barely passed the Legislature when lawmakers were assured the program would only apply to two counties. By trying to push for a huge expansion, Lee is depending on voters and lawmakers not to speak up against it. But that’s why we need you to take action. Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders, a supporter of the move who signed a voucher bill in her state, is claiming that vouchers will keep schools from teaching the “latest politically correct fad,” by which she of course means, “not theocratic rhetoric designed to indoctrinate children.” The expanded program would slash funding to secular school districts and endanger the latest generation of students’ freedom of conscience. Tennessee residents need to speak up to make sure public school funds aren’t going to private, overwhelmingly religious schools!
Tennessee students need you to stand up for their rights before Lee is able to abuse a lack of awareness of this move. Don’t let theocrats get their hands on children’s minds!
