FFRF Action Fund and Amarillo, TX residents are seeking support to halt the unconstitutional display of the Ten Commandments in the new city hall building. The Amarillo City Council recently approved plans to erect the display.

A new report notes that city council members met with legal counsel from the Christian nationalist legal outfit First Liberty Institute. Since then, the council has reignited the desire to move forward with the plans to erect a Ten Commandments display outside city hall. We need your help to stop this display in its tracks!

Despite the assertion that the Ten Commandments are a “historical document,” there is no evidence that they were ever the foundation of American public law. The decalogue is purely a religious document — Erecting this monument would run counter to the principles of freedom of religion and free speech, alienate non-Christians, and even pit one sect of Christianity against others. Displaying this obviously religious monument is nothing but divisive and has no place on public property.

Remind the Amarillo City Council that they must stop this divisive and unconstitutional display of the Ten Commandments. Write to your city council members and tell them to reject the proposed display! As mentioned earlier, city council members seem poised to approve this proposal, so the time to act is now! We’ve included suggested language through the “Take Action” button that can be customized to your liking. For best results, please be succinct and polite.
