Christian nationalists are emboldened — and they are coming for our public school classrooms!
Lawmakers in Texas are fighting to erode the wall between state and church. The FFRF Action Fund needs your help to fight back against two deeply troubling bills. Please act today and keep religious coercion and indoctrination out of public schools!
Senate Bill 10 would require public schools to post a large display of the Ten Commandments in every classroom. The bill ensures that these displays must be written in “a size and typeface that is legible to a person with average vision” from anywhere in the room. Public school students should not have to endure religious coercion in a public school setting. Don’t let lawmakers take away that right: Fight back today!
Senate Bill 11 would allow Texas public schools to implement a period of prayer and religious text reading. There is no question that students are free to pray and read religious texts on their own in school, so long as it is free from staff or faculty influence and coercion. This bill is pure grandstanding by Christian nationalists who wish to have religion — and let’s face it, a particular form of religion — encroach on public schools. Schools are meant to be spaces where children from all backgrounds can come to learn, free from religious coercion. They must remain that way.
This bill will be heard tomorrow, so please act now! We have included talking points through the “Take Action” button that you can edit to your liking. For best results, please be succinct and polite. For extra impact, you will be directed to a phone script to call legislators after you email them. Please take the extra minute to call them if you can! And if you’re in the Austin area and wish to testify in person, please do so! The meeting will be held in room SHB 440 at 11 a.m. tomorrow.
(Note: You must live in Texas to take part in this action alert.)
