Tennessee public schools need your advocacy!
As the legislative season in Tennessee continues, Christian nationalists feel emboldened to push their agenda further and further. We need your help to ensure that public school students aren’t forced into bible classes. Take action today to keep schools secular!
HB 1197 seeks to expand the state’s already problematic “academic study of the Bible” courses to include public charter schools. These classes blatantly go against the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment by forcing school districts to favor Christianity over all other religions and nonreligion. These Christian-favored bible classes come straight from Project Blitz, a theocratic movement to slowly erode the wall of state and church, starting with seemingly harmless bills like these, by attempting to convince students that America is a “Christian nation.” Tennessee’s bible class law should be repealed, not expanded. Please take action today!
The House Education Instruction Subcommittee will be hearing this bill tomorrow, March 4, so time is of the essence! We have included talking points through the “Take Action” button that you can edit to your liking. For best results, please be succinct and polite. For extra impact, you will be directed to a phone script to call legislators after you email them. Please take the extra minute to call them if you can!
(Note: You must live in Tennessee to take part in this action alert.)
