Texas is moving fast to attack secular education! Two religiously motivated bills will be heard tomorrow, May 11, by the Senate Committee on Education. Take action today to keep schools from a religious invasion!

House Bill 900 is a new book-banning bill that would give the Texas government the authority on what books are allowed in school libraries. This will allow out-of-touch religious zealots to keep any number of books away from children — especially if these books challenge theocracy! Many of these bans target innocent books such as Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale, describing it as “pornographic.” FFRF Action Fund highlighted the danger of these bills in a recent press release.

Additionally, House Bill 2012 would allow teachers and professors to display the phrase “In God We Trust” without any restrictions. Under the guise that this is our “national motto,” the phrase does more to divide us as a nation than it does to unite us. This is a clear attempt to create the false perception that schools are sponsored by Christianity! It is every educator’s responsibility to support a secular education, but this bill would defeat that very notion.

These two bills need to be stopped before they get any further, so take action today! We have provided suggested language through the “Take Action” button, which can be customized to your liking. For best results, please be succinct and polite.
