FFRF Action Fund needs your help to stop discrimination in Georgia!

Senate Bill 36 is a Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA) proposed to “protect” religious individuals from government persecution. These bills set a dangerous precedent for allowing discrimination from Christian organizations against non-adherents. The House Judiciary Committee will be hearing this bill tomorrow, March 26, so please act today and urge committee members to oppose it!

SB 36 would allow people to freely discriminate based on religion with near impunity. Under the proposed law, the state would need to refrain from “burden[ing] a person’s right to the exercise of religion.” This heightened standard virtually guarantees a finding that no government actions are valid reasons to curb discrimination so long as it is done in the name of religion. There are numerous examples of such discrimination under the protection of the federal RFRA and other state RFRAs, including the infamous Hobby Lobby decision. Christian nationalists are fighting for bills like these to take hold in states across the nation to cement their privilege to openly discriminate without repercussion. Don’t this happen in Georgia!

Again, the House Judiciary Committee will be hearing this bill tomorrow, so please don’t wait to contact them! We have included talking points through the “Take Action” button that you can edit to your liking. For best results, please be succinct and polite. For extra impact, you will be directed to a phone script to call legislators after you email them. Please take the extra minute to call them if you can!
