Kentucky lawmakers are trying to put religion before your right to medical care.

Senate Bill 72 recently passed its first chamber, and we need your help to stop it. This dangerous bill carries the power to embolden religious medical practitioners to engage in identity-based discrimination. Please take this chance to fight back, and urge your representative to reject SB 72!

SB 72, the so-called “Health Care Heroes Recruitment and Retention Act,” would allow health care professionals to deny care under the guise of religious freedom. Even worse, the bill provides active protection against legal liability for the denial of care. By allowing health care professionals and institutions to refuse participation in a wide range of services — including testing, diagnosis, counseling, and referrals — based on religious or moral objections, the bill could enable denial of care in ways that may impact reproductive rights, LGBTQ+ rights and access to nondiscriminatory health care. Christian nationalists are pushing legislation like this to make America a more hostile place for people who don’t align with their explicit religious beliefs. No one deserves to live in fear of being unable to receive medical care just because of who they are — Please help to keep Kentucky safe for everyone!

By opposing this bill now, we have a chance to make sure it doesn’t end up on the governor’s desk. Don’t let this opportunity go to waste! We have included language you can use to contact your representative through the “Take Action” button that can be edited to your liking by clicking or tapping on the pencil icon.

Additionally, after emailing your representative, you will be prompted to call them as well — even leaving a phone message shows your dedication to the cause! For best results, please be succinct and polite.
