Tennessee public schools need your help to stay secular!

The Ten Commandments could soon be in public schools thanks to House Bill 47. The bill recently passed its first chamber vote, and we need your help to stop it when it reaches the Senate. Christian nationalists are pushing bills like this to try to trick public school students into believing religion played an important foundational role in American history — Act now, and help foil their schemes!

HB 47 would allow schools to display the Ten Commandments in a prominent location. The bill attempts to claim that the religious text is a historical text with the same significance as the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. Christian nationalists know that students are a captive audience at school, and in their eyes trying to convert students to Christianity is violating long-standing Supreme Court precedent. It’s vital that this bill be stopped now, before Tennessee school districts get the chance to push dogma on students!

This bill is moving fast, so contacting your local senator now has the best chance to stop it! We have included suggested language through the “Take Action” button that can be edited by clicking or tapping on the pencil icon. The best way to get a lawmaker’s attention is to share your personal perspective, so please take the time to share your own story if you can.

Additionally, after sending the emails, you will be prompted to call your senator as well — even leaving a phone message shows your dedication to the cause! For best results, please be succinct and polite.
