Maine legislators have introduced a new voucher scheme. The Education and Cultural Affairs Joint Committee will be hearing LD 338 on Monday, May 8, so please take action today to keep this bill from shaping the future of public education!

LD 338 would require that state funding follow students to private schools and homeschooling. This would force taxpayers to fund private — often religious — institutions all over the state! If parents wish for their child to attend a private institution rather than a public school, it should be their responsibility to pay for it — not taxpayers. Studies have even shown that students who attend private schools see no long-term benefit over their public school peers. Don’t let your tax dollars foot the bill for private school religious indoctrination!

The bill will enter its first hearing on May 8, so please act today to make sure it stops there! We have provided suggested language through the “Take Action” button, which can be customized to your liking. For best results, please be succinct and polite.

(Note: You must live in this state to take part in this action alert.)
