Please take a moment to contact your senators and urge them to support S. 359, the Supreme Court Ethics, Recusal and Transparency (SCERT) Act. After multiple rulings and exposés eroded public trust in the Court, SCERT aims to restore integrity by implementing ethical standards that ensure transparency and accountability. The Senate Judiciary Committee will be voting on SCERT tomorrow, Thursday, July 20, so please act now!
Continuing major ethics concerns over conflicts of interest that buy access to justices by big-monied special interest groups demand reform. SCERT mandates, for liberal and conservative justices alike, the disclosure of financial ties, requires the justices to publicly provide reasons for recusal in cases involving potential conflicts of interest, establishes an ethical code of conduct for Supreme Court justices, and promotes transparency to safeguard the integrity and impartiality of the judicial system.
