Please take a moment to contact your members of Congress and urge them to support the Supreme Court Ethics, Recusal and Transparency (SCERT) Act. The bill, introduced by Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, D-R.I., and Rep. Hank Johnson, D-Ga., would help restore the integrity of the U.S. Supreme Court by implementing ethical standards that ensure transparency and accountability.
In the wake of damaging exposés about Justice Clarence Thomas’ ethics lapses, there is more support than ever for Congress to require the Court to abide by basic standards of ethics and accountability. But legislators need to know that they have strong public support. Please take a moment to let your congressional representatives know that this issue is important to you.
Recent reporting has revealed that Thomas has neglected to report decades of luxury gifts from conservative megadonor and Texas realtor Harlan Crow and has failed to follow the law and disclose substantial real estate sales. Thomas notably also did not recuse himself when he had conflicts of interest, including challenges to the 2020 presidential election involving his wife Ginni, who was part of the White House campaign to overturn the election. One such case involved a subpoena of records that included Ginni Thomas’ own emails. Brazenly, Clarence Thomas not only participated in the case but dissented in a transparent attempt to aid his wife and other insurrectionists.
This flagrant disregard for basic ethical standards cannot be tolerated. Please take action today to show support for this important bill! We’ve included suggested language through the “Take Action” button, which can be customized as you see fit. For best results, please be succinct and polite.
