A local student activist needs your help! Eli Frost, a sophomore at Chaska High School, started a petition to move graduation ceremonies from Grace Church to a more secular venue. Take action today to encourage the board to respect the First Amendment rights of district families!
Eastern Carver County Schools have used the Grace Church in Eden Prairie to host graduation ceremonies for both of their high schools for over a decade, creating an unwelcoming environment for nonreligious, nonChristian and LGBTQ+ students, and violating the separation between state and church. Despite issuing a public claim that they “don’t discriminate against anyone,” the church has frequently espoused fundamentalist biblical teachings on gender, marriage and divorce, as well as having a history of making derogatory public statements against the LGBTQ+ community. Read more about the situation and FFRF’s legal letter backing the student complaints. Please add your voice as an area resident to support students.
FFRF Action Fund applauds the activism of the young freethinker. Please sign the petition and contact the school board directly to voice your concerns with our suggested talking points through the “Take Action” button, or customize the message. For best results, please be succinct and polite.
