Medication abortion is at risk in Texas!

In a state with notoriously strict abortion laws, Texas lawmakers are looking to put pregnant women in even more danger. The only resource for abortion after six weeks of pregnancy comes from medications such as mifepristone, but House Bill 7 aims to take away this resource completely for state residents. The bill is on Governor Greg Abbott’s desk, and we need your help to urge him to veto it — Please act today!

HB7 would not only make it illegal to distribute abortion medication, but also ensure that out-of-state providers would not be able to mail these prescription medications to Texas residents. The law also allows private citizens to bring lawsuits against physicians simply for providing critical abortion medication to those who need it. Residents can initiate lawsuits against doctors they suspect of violating the law, turning everyday Texans into enforcers. This is the second proposed usage of a “bounty hunting” law regarding abortion, and the first since the Dobbs decision that turned abortion laws into a “states’ rights” issue.

Christian nationalists are pushing harder than ever to punish women who seek abortions, and are using Texas as a test bed to see how far they can go to strip away bodily autonomy. Please act now, and urge Abbott to veto this bill! We have included talking points that you can edit to your liking. For best results, please be succinct and polite. For extra impact, you will be directed to a phone script to call Abbott after you email him. Please take a moment to call him if you can!
