The state legislature just issued their final approval on Senate Bill 5375, a bill requiring clergy members to become mandated reporters without the confessional loophole. Now, we need you to encourage Gov. Ferguson to sign the bill into law!
The Catholic opposition to this bill was strong, but thanks to your efforts, we were stronger! The last step is to ensure that Ferguson signs the bill, but the Catholic Church will surely attempt to lobby the governor’s office to veto the legislation. The church wants to maintain its control over its public image, and it sees any bill that seeks to expose abuse in the church as a threat to that image. We need you to stand up one more time for this bill, and let Ferguson know that victims of abuse and neglect depend on this legislation!
