A bad bill was stopped in Kansas, thanks to Gov. Laura Kelly — but her veto may be overturned.

Senate Bill 63 recently made its way through the legislature, carrying dangerous consequences for LGBTQ-plus youth with it. Despite the work of religious extremists, Gov. Kelly saw the bill as the threat it was and rightfully vetoed it. Now the bill heads back to the Legislature to allow them the opportunity to override the veto. FFRF Action Fund needs you to speak up for children who can’t be heard by legislators today. Please act now — and stop Christian nationalists from controlling children’s medical decisions!

SB 63 would prohibit medical professionals from providing gender-affirming care to individuals under the age of 18 while also threatening legal action against providers who do so. This bill has shown the gross misunderstanding of transgender care that Christian nationalists have spread by taking the broad-strokes approach of banning all gender-affirming care. The belief that doctors are providing these treatments without much consideration for the well-being of an individual is a complete myth and doesn’t take into consideration a child’s mental and physical health. The fact that 200 health care professionals are urging Kansas legislators to sustain the veto shows that medical care is necessary for survival. Kansas lawmakers working to strong-arm their bill into state law are playing a dangerous game that will cost children their lives. Please don’t let children become the victims of hateful bigotry at the highest level in Kansas.

There’s no time to lose in this pressing manner, so please don’t wait to contact your representatives today. Elected officials must record communications from their constituents, so taking this chance to stand up against hateful legislation is a great way to ensure they know where you stand on these issues! Please use our talking points through the “Take Action” button that can be customized to your liking, and don’t forget the effectiveness of a phone call!
