New York legislators need to hear from you! The Care Act is pending in both the New York Assembly and the Senate — and we’re asking you to make sure that lawmakers support it. Take action today and stop the church from sweeping abuse under the rug!
The Care Act will require clergy members to report the abuse of a child when it becomes known to them. As more and more cases come to light revealing instances of abuse, it is long past due to require these perpetrators to face justice. With the mandate that clergy members report abuse, children will have another outlet to report these crimes. It’s time for the church to be brought up to the same standards of accountability as the rest of the state. Tell your lawmakers to take a stand!
The Care Act does include an unfortunate exception for abuse learned of during confession or other similar clerical sessions, but still the bill moves the law in the right direction.
Please act today to make New York a safer place for children! We’ve included suggested language through the “Take Action” button, which you may customize as you see fit. For best results, please be succinct and polite.
