Texas lawmakers are out of control! The Senate Education Committee has advanced two bills that would bring Christianity into public schools. As these bills now move to the full Senate, please contact your senator to let them know that these dangerous bills must be stopped!

SB 763 seeks to allow chaplains to take the place of school counselors without requiring them to obtain the same certification. According to the Texas Education Agency’s website, school counselors “intervene on behalf of any student whose immediate personal concerns or problems put the student’s continued educational, career, personal, or social development at risk.” A chaplain, with no formal counseling certification, has absolutely no business carrying out these duties.

SB 1515 is an outright assault on secular education. This bill would require public elementary and secondary school classrooms to display the Ten Commandments. This is a gross violation of the First Amendment and a clear endorsement of Christianity. The Ten Commandments belong nowhere in our schools!

These bills will be voted on for final passage soon, so there is no time to waste! Let your senators know that public schools are not the place for proselytization. We have included suggested language through the “Take Action” button, which can be customized as you see fit. For best results, please be succinct and polite.
