Maryland legislators need to hear from you!
Maryland’s House Judiciary Committee is meeting tomorrow, March 28, to vote on two important bills that will make Maryland a safer state. Take action to help protect children from clergy abuse and to stand up for reproductive freedom!
SB 686 will remove the statute of limitations for child abuse. This bill will allow predators to be punished after committing child abuse even if survivors have gone years without seeking justice in court, as is frequently the case. This provides added protection to children from oftentimes religious predators, such as priests or clergy members who use positions of power to gain access to minors. This bill takes a stand for children when the church refuses to!
SB 859 will provide legal protections for individuals who get an abortion in Maryland and people who help others get one. This is a response to popular “bounty hunter” laws, as seen in Texas, that incentivize others to report their fellow citizens to authorities for seeking bodily autonomy. This bill will make Maryland a place free from other states’ theocratic attacks on reproductive autonomy in a post-Roe v. Wade America, so please act quickly to keep this bill alive!
The hearing for these bills is tomorrow, so don’t hesitate to act today! We have provided suggested language through the “Take Action” button, which can be customized as you see fit. For best results, please be succinct and polite.
