An important bill to end child marriage will soon be up for a hearing in Vermont. H 148 will be heard by the Vermont Senate Judiciary Committee tomorrow, March 29, so please act quickly!

H 148 will raise the marriage age in Vermont to 18 without any exceptions. This includes ending any sort of religious exemption! According to UNICEF, minors who are married are 50 percent more likely to drop out of school. Early marriage additionally doubles a teenager’s chance of living in poverty and triples the likelihood of domestic violence, as compared to adults. Children are typically pursued for marriage by religious individuals using outdated dogma to justify their abusive behavior. Don’t let Vermont children be at risk!

This important bill needs your support today, so please don’t wait to take action! We’ve included suggested language through the “Take Action” button, which can be customized as you see fit. For best results, please be succinct and polite.
