A federal voucher scheme needs to be stopped!

The Educational Choice for Children Act (ECCA) has been added to the GOP Reconciliation bill, which is expected to be voted out of committee in the U.S. House. Reconciliation is  a fast-track budget process that allows legislation related to taxes and spending to pass the U.S. Senate with a simple majority, bypassing the 60-vote filibuster. By including the Educational Choice for Children Act in reconciliation, GOP lawmakers are hoping to implement a federal voucher scheme previously unheard of. Please act now to put a stop to this act!

The ECCA is a tax shelter for the ultra-wealthy, allowing donors like Betsy DeVos to wipe out their federal tax bill by funding private religious school scholarships. Unlike a standard tax deduction that reduces taxable income, ECCA offers a dollar-for-dollar tax credit — making it far more lucrative. This scheme diverts public funds and erodes support for secular public education, while also directly violating the separation of state and church by funneling public money into private religious schools that can discriminate based on faith, sexual orientation, disability or academic performance — all without public oversight. ECCA would hurt secular nonprofit work by  distorting the charitable giving landscape, creating a privileged credit for religious school vouchers, siphoning donations away from food banks, shelters, and community-based organizations. This act must be stopped!

The GOP Reconciliation bill is expected to be voted out of committee at 2:30 ET, and is extremely likely to be voted on by the full House within the next two weeks. Please take action today!
