Wisconsin lawmakers have launched an impeachment campaign against Protasiewicz due to her campaign trail comments relating to the current draconian state abortion ban and regarding Wisconsin’s gerrymandered district maps. Judges have long been open about their beliefs on topics that may come before the court, and Protasiewicz never “prejudged” any specific cases while campaigning. The motion to impeach Protasiewicz is motivated by the fear of losing control over pregnant people’s bodies, knowing that their theocratic grip over the court will be lost if they don’t get their way. These lawmakers are acting with a high degree of hypocrisy, considering that Justices Brian Hagedorn and Rebecca Bradley stated their beliefs on relevant topics prior to their time on the court, and Wisconsin legislators never called on them to recuse, much less make any mention of impeachment.
