S 5332 would ensure that individuals mandated by a New York court to attend recovery support programs are provided with secular options. While secular options are already available, all too often individuals are unaware of their existence and are forced to participate in religiously motivated 12-step programs. In New York, 47 percent of all treatment admissions to the Office of Addiction Services and Support are due to criminal justice cases. Secular individuals need to be able to get help that aligns with their views!
