SB 474 is a “fetal heartbeat” ban, which would prohibit abortion after six weeks. This ban, however, is entirely a misnomer, since six-week-old fetuses don’t have a heartbeat. Worse yet, many individuals are unaware that they’re pregnant this soon! This bill would only doom individuals to carry a pregnancy to term simply because they found out about their pregnancy too late to take action. In a post-Roe America, this is another clear attack against reproductive rights by religiously motivated anti-abortion groups that put the life of the fetus before the life of the woman.
