Tax Code Reform Curbing Church Abuses

Close loopholes that allow groups like Focus on the Family and Christian nationalist legal foundations  to avoid public accountability by reclassifying themselves as an Association of Churches.
By misleadingly reorganizing themselves as churches, these nonprofit evangelical associations are able to avoid having to fill out the Form 990 that all nonprofits —  other than churches — are required to file, to account for what they do with tax-exempt donations, which are essentially subsidized by the public. A shocking number of Christian nationalist-related legal outfits have recently reorganized as “an association of churches,” to hide finances, including the salaries paid to CEOS, or simply to camouflage their goals.
