At the annual White House Easter Egg Roll, President Donald Trump declared, “We’re bringing religion back in America,” and vowed to “honor Jesus Christ very powerfully…”
This overtly religious rhetoric at a taxpayer-funded, government-sponsored event crosses a clear constitutional line. The U.S. government is secular — it has no business promoting one religion over others, or religion over nonreligion.
Religious freedom means freedom from government-imposed religion. Public events at the White House should welcome all Americans, not serve as a pulpit for Christian nationalism.
