Washington State House

Kristiana de Leon, District 5

The FFRF Action Fund is pleased to announce its endorsement of Kristiana de Leon to represent the 5th legislative District in the Washington state House of Representatives.

De Leon has lived her secular values during her two terms on the Black Diamond City Council. During her tenure there, she has stood up for progressive values such as affordable housing and championing LGBTQ-plus rights. She has been a fearless advocate for the separation of state and church. One of her main priorities was assisting in the legislative effort requiring clergy members to become mandated reporters of suspected child abuse.

De Leon is a lifetime resident of Washington state, and identifies as a Humanist. She triple-majored in Global Studies, Chinese Studies and Scandinavian Studies, then earned her master’s degree in education at Pacific Lutheran University. Prior to serving on the City Council, she worked for seven years in the public education system.

“We know that she will serve her constituents well and lead with the same bold, principled stance that she has led with during her time at the City Council,” says FFRF Action Fund President Annie Laurie Gaylor. FFRF Action Fund also praises her help navigating the Washington Statehouse when relevant legislation has come up.

The primary election will be held on Aug. 6, and the general election will be held on Nov. 5. We strongly urge our Washington advocates to support de Leon’s candidacy, and, of course, show up to vote for her if you live in her district and encourage others to do so.
