Rep. Ryan Clancy, District 19
Rep. Ryan Clancy is an incumbent candidate who stated that he supports both the separation between state and church and protecting reproductive autonomy. He describes himself as a lifelong activist, organizer and advocate who has consistently stood in defense of civil rights and social justice. He is a member of the Democratic Party and the Democratic Socialists of America.
Prior to serving in the Wisconsin Assembly, Clancy was a Milwaukee County supervisor. He sued the city and county in 2021, alleging that police violated his rights at a Black Lives Matter protest the prior summer. That claim was settled in late 2023 (more details here). In 1995, The ACLU represented Clancy when his high school administrators tried to expel him for organizing and publishing an alternative student newspaper.
Clancy is endorsed by the Center for Freethought Equality, which states that Clancy is an atheist.
Assembly District 19 is a safe Democratic seat. It includes the eastern portion of downtown Milwaukee and communities along the coast of Lake Michigan, including the area around the UW-Milwaukee campus.
Clancy must win his primary election on August 13 in order to advance to the general election in November.
